Student filmmaker Preston L. of the Frederick V. Pankow Center created “Eyes on the Road,” an impactful public service announcement about phone distraction behind the wheel. His video earned 2nd Place in the 2026 Courageous Persuaders Distracted Driving category, presented by the National Road Safety Foundation.

In the video, Preston highlights just how distracting a phone can be behind the wheel. Even a quick glance away from the road can have serious consequences, making it important to put the phone down and stay focused every time you drive.

Congratulations to Preston L. on this well-deserved recognition and for using his creativity to share such an important message about the dangers of phone distraction while driving.

On this day, September 19, 2026, exactly ten years since we lost Mitchel, we gathered for The Mitchel Kiefer Memorial [Disc] Golf Event: Chasing Aces, Saving Lives.

Surrounded by family, friends, and supporters, we honored Mitchel’s life, celebrated his legacy, and continued our work to change the world in his memory.

The setting could not have been more meaningful. Mitchel was an avid disc golfer, and the event was held at Cass Benton Hills - his favorite course and the place where he made his first ace on Hole 12.

During the event, we broke ground on two permanent memorials that will be installed at the course later this year: a memorial bench on the practice green and a memorial boulder at Hole 12. Together, they will create a lasting place to remember Mitchel, share his story, and remind everyone who visits that the choices we make behind the wheel matter.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who joined us on such a deeply meaningful and emotional day. Your presence meant more to the Kiefer family and The Kiefer Foundation than we can express.

Ten years later, Mitchel’s life continues to inspire action, save lives, and change the world.
