Student filmmaker Gabriel F. of Romeo High School created “Life’s Fragile,” a creative public service announcement about the dangers of impaired driving. His video received the College for Creative Studies Summer Certificate in the 2026 Courageous Persuaders competition, presented by The National Road Safety Foundation.

Life is fragile, and the choices we make behind the wheel can change everything in an instant. Distraction can impair a driver’s ability to respond to danger, just as alcohol or drugs can. Driving sober and staying focused protects everyone who shares the road.

Congratulations to Gabriel F. on this well-deserved recognition and for using his creativity to remind us to give every drive our full attention.

Mitchel’s fun-loving personality was impossible to miss. He was a loving brother, son, and friend who filled everyday moments with laughter, and he had an entire lifetime of memories still ahead of him.

At 18 years old, not long after this photo was taken, Mitchel was killed by a distracted driver. His family is left without the birthdays, adventures, celebrations, and ordinary days they should still be sharing with him.

Every time we tell Mitchel’s story, we hope it inspires someone to make a safer choice behind the wheel. Keep your eyes on the road and give driving your full attention. Just Drive.

His video earned 2nd Place in the 2026 Courageous Persuaders Distracted Driving category, presented by the National Road Safety Foundation.

In the video, Preston highlights just how distracting a phone can be behind the wheel. Even a quick glance away from the road can have serious consequences, making it important to put the phone down and stay focused every time you drive.

On this day, September 19, 2026, exactly ten years since we lost Mitchel, we gathered for The Mitchel Kiefer Memorial [Disc] Golf Event: Chasing Aces, Saving Lives.

Surrounded by family, friends, and supporters, we honored Mitchel’s life, celebrated his legacy, and continued our work to change the world in his memory.

The setting could not have been more meaningful. Mitchel was an avid disc golfer, and the event was held at Cass Benton Hills - his favorite course and the place where he made his first ace on Hole 12.

During the event, we broke ground on two permanent memorials that will be installed at the course later this year: a memorial bench on the practice green and a memorial boulder at Hole 12. Together, they will create a lasting place to remember Mitchel, share his story, and remind everyone who visits that the choices we make behind the wheel matter.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who joined us on such a deeply meaningful and emotional day. Your presence meant more to the Kiefer family and The Kiefer Foundation than we can express.

Ten years later, Mitchel’s life continues to inspire action, save lives, and change the world.
