Student filmmaker Zoltan H. of Frederick V. Pankow Center High School, winner of the 2026 Courageous Persuaders Risks of Speeding Award presented by NRSF, created this powerful public service announcement, "The Deadline."

In the video, Zoltan explores how heightened emotions can influence decision-making behind the wheel and the serious consequences that can follow. Driving isn`t just about what`s happening on the road—it`s also about what`s happening in our minds. Emotions can affect our focus, reaction time, and the choices we make behind the wheel.

Congratulations to Zoltan H. on this outstanding achievement and impactful message.

If you don`t know the driving laws, your teen won`t either.

Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) is one of the most effective tools we have to help reduce teen crashes because it gives teens the opportunity to gradually gain experience behind the wheel over time and in different driving conditions.

Many parents think of GDL as just a set of laws, but it`s also a framework for learning. Nighttime curfews, passenger restrictions, and phone bans are all designed to reduce risk while teens build confidence and experience on the road. Even if your state doesn`t require all of these protections, best practices still matter.

That means:
🚗 Limiting passengers
📵 Enforcing phone-free driving
🌙 Respecting nighttime driving limits
🌧️ Practicing together in different conditions like highways, rain, fog, or heavy traffic

The first time your teen experiences difficult driving conditions shouldn`t be when they`re alone. The goal is to coach, guide, and gradually prepare them for real-world situations while you`re still in the passenger seat.

The stretch between Memorial Day and Labor Day, known as the 100 Deadliest Days, brings more teens on the road and a significant increase in fatal crashes. But these crashes are preventable.

Take five minutes to look up your state`s teen driving laws at GHSA.org, then visit 100safestdaysofsummer.org for tools and tips to help keep your teen safe all summer long. ☀️

Summer holds some of the best memories a kid can make. A happy moment, a yummy treat, a night to remember. Mitchel had so many of these, and he should have had so many more. Stay focused. Just drive.

"I didn`t mean to" is one of the most common things said after a crash. But intentions don`t change outcomes.

The road doesn`t respond to what you meant to do. It responds to the choices you make behind the wheel. Put the phone down. Speak up if you don’t feel safe. Just drive.
