Summer doesn`t have to be the most dangerous time of year for teen drivers.

While the period between Memorial Day and Labor Day is often called the "100 Deadliest Days" due to an increase in crashes involving young drivers, the choices families make every day can help change that.

Parents have more influence than they may realize. Modeling distraction-free driving, setting clear expectations, and continuing to practice safe driving habits with teens can make a lasting impact long after a driver`s license is earned.

Together, we can help make this the 100 Safest Days of Summer.

Find the full toolkit, conversation starters, and family resources at 100safestdaysofsummer.org.

There`s a quiet kind of overconfidence that creeps in behind the wheel. The drive you`ve made a hundred times. The road you know by heart. The feeling that you can handle one quick glance, one fast reply, one small moment of looking away.

But the road doesn`t care how many times you`ve driven it. It only responds to the choices you make right now. Stay present. Stay focused. Just drive.

One of the biggest challenges in addressing distracted driving is that we don`t always know when it`s a factor.

A driver may never admit they were looking at a phone. Witnesses may not see it. Crash reports may not capture it.

That means distracted driving is likely affecting far more crashes than the data can show.

The good news? Every time you get behind the wheel, you have the power to be part of the solution. Put the phone away and give driving your full attention.

The Kiefer Foundation exists because of one life that should still be here.

Mitchel Kiefer was just 18 years old when he was killed by a distracted driver. In an instant, his family lost a son, a brother, a grandson, and a friend. That loss can never be undone.

Every student we reach, every policy we support, every resource we share, and every conversation we start is rooted in one goal: preventing another family from experiencing the same heartbreak.

Mitchel is our why. And we`ll continue working toward a future where distracted driving is no longer accepted as "just an accident."

Student filmmaker Yasmin I. of The Woodlands High School, winner of the 2026 Courageous Persuaders Video of the Year Award presented by the National Road Safety Foundation (NRSF), created this impactful public service announcement, "When Death Calls."

In the video, Yasmin reminds viewers that every decision behind the wheel matters. By choosing to ignore distractions, stay focused, and practice safe driving behaviors, we can all help prevent tragedies before they happen.

Congratulations to Yasmin I. on this well-deserved recognition and for creating such a powerful reminder to choose safety every time you drive.

Your phone has a setting that could save your life.

Do Not Disturb. Driving Mode. Whatever your device calls it, the idea is the same: one quick tap before you start the car silences the notifications, holds the texts, and lets you focus on what actually matters in that moment.

It takes seconds to turn on. It takes one distraction to change everything. Make it part of your routine, every drive, every time.
